Direct Visual Feedback on the Process of Ideation using Text Network Graphs Encourages a more Coherent Expression of Ideas

Diagrams and visual maps used to represent information as a network of interconnected nodes are widely used to aid one’s understanding of data and produce novel interpretations of the already known facts. We studied the effect of text network graph representation on the processes of ideation and found that direct live visual feedback increases the subjective sense of consistency in one’s thoughts and increases connectivity between the ideas expressed.
